What is BookmarkFiles?

BookmarkFiles is a web tool that keeps the files you open all the time, such as txt, html, md, css, js and json, in one list like bookmarks. Click a file and its content opens right next to it. Renaming, editing and saving all apply to the real file in its folder on your computer.

How it works

  1. Click Add File and pick the files you use often. You can select several at once.
  2. Click a file in the list to open it. When you edit it, a red dot appears next to its name, and it disappears when you Save.
  3. Edit the name and description right in the list, and double-click a row if you want to add a folder note. Drag rows to reorder them.
  4. Create a New File and you'll be asked where to save it the first time you save.

FAQ

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Your browser reads and writes the files directly on your computer, and nothing is sent to a server. The list, descriptions and folder notes are stored only in this browser.

Why does the browser ask for permission again when I come back?

For security, the browser re-checks file access. Choosing "Allow on every visit" in the permission prompt makes it ask less often.

Why doesn't it show the file's full path (C:\...)?

Browsers don't reveal where a file lives on your disk, so the site can't read it. If you want a folder shown under a file name, double-click its row and type it as a note.

Which browsers work?

Desktop Chrome and Edge, which support saving files directly. Firefox and Safari aren't supported.

My non-English text looks garbled.

If a file isn't UTF-8, it's read as EUC-KR (CP949) automatically. Saving then converts it to UTF-8, and you're asked to confirm first.
